For the Curious
Have you ever wondered about your purpose for living? Are you curious about the truth about the man named Jesus that has inspired and transformed the lives of millions of people over the past 2000 years? I certainly did. I have also wondered about Hinduism, Islam, Mormonism, Catholicism, and more. There was a time when I was confused and ignorant to the reason for various denominational and non- denomination protestant churches. In my journey, I have collected data through reading, Bible study, small groups, attending sermons, taking college
courses on religion and having deep conversations about the “big” questions. I do not profess to have all the answers and realize that until I see my Lord and creator, I probably won’t have the answers. What I do have is an understanding of the questions and difficulty some people have in coming to faith in a loving God. The Love God Love Peoples is a reference to two critical commands that Jesus gives to his followers. He tells them to “love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul and mind and love your neighbor as yourself.” (Matthew 22:37). Imagine a world where people took these commands to heart each and every day. A world where they honor the God that created them above all else and secondly put others before themselves. It would transform the world as we know it. As unrealistic as that may sound, can you imagine how your life might change if you followed those commands. Even if and when you fail, simply the intent and goals to follow these commands would result in a life filled with meaning and purpose for others instead of yourself. My prayer is that more and more people will realize that the commands God gives us in His word are not for His benefit but for our own.
